The Broadway musical "Tarzan", based on Disney's animated movie, with music by Phill Collins will open in Hamburg's Neue Flora Theater in October 2008, replacing the dance show "Dirty Dancing" after a run of 15 months.
"Tarzan" first opened on Broadway in May 2006 and ran for 486 performances – a flop by Disney standards, with "Beauty and the Beast" running for ten years and "The Lion King" still going strong in New York, London and Hamburg. "Tarzan" opened in Scheveningen's Circus Theatre last year after extensive changes and has become a tremendous success in the Netherlands, so we can hope that the improved version will fly in Hamburg as well.
The show should receive an additional boost by the fact that the two leads to play Tarzan and Jane will be sought through a casting show on television, the format first seen on British television with shows like "How do you solve a problem like Maria?", followed by shows to find new leads for "Grease" and "Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat"
Regular audition dates will of course be announced on Stagepool!
