Stage Entertainment in cooperation with Dutch producer V&V Entertainment will produce a German version of the successful Dutch jukebox musical "Doe Maar" that was a great hit in the Netherlands last season. But while the Dutch production used the songs of the Dutch band Doe Maar that was hugely successful during the 80's, the German version will instead feature hits from the early 80's German-pop movement known as Neue Deutsche Welle. Among the best-known artists of the era was pop singer Nena with songs such as "99 Luftballons" and "Nur Geträumt" (the former even entered the American charts in an English version called "99 Red Balloons"). The story and costumes will also be adapted to fit the German background of this new version (although one wonders what will remain of the Dutch production at all)
The new jukebox musical will be directed by Carline Brouwer with choreography by Anthony van Laast, sets by Christoph Weyers and costumes by Cocky van Huijkelom. So get those legwarmers and headbands out and check back on StagePool for the audition dates!
